Congratulations! You’re finally ready to toss the razor and take the plunge into the world of Brazilian waxing. We’re so excited to welcome you into the club— once you start, you never stop.

So what now, and what do you need to know?

FAQ

  • How bad does it hurt?

We know this is your first question. We’d be lying through our teeth if we suggested that any wax service is painless. That being said, your first Brazilian experience is always the most uncomfortable because your hair roots are thickest and deepest, you don’t know what to expect yet, and often we complete the service in slightly smaller sections than on a regular waxer. Most wax clients would rate first time discomfort as a 4-5/10, and regular waxes after that around a 2/10 with an occasional tough spot. The sting doesn’t linger, is SO worth it, and over SO quickly.

  • What are the benefits of waxing over shaving?

Hair grows back incredibly thinner, softer and more sparse! The longer you wax, the better your results. You will see these benefits after only one wax, but the results will become more and more impressive if you stay consistent. Say goodbye to that dark, coarse and scratchy hair you never wanted and have spent years shaving.

  • How long does my hair need to be?

Hair should be the length of a grain of rice (or 1/4in) at minimum! It can’t be too long, only too short, so skip the trimmer and let her grow!

  • What do I wear during my service?

For a Brazilian, we do ask you to undress from the waist down (socks not included!). We totally understand that this can be a little nerve-wracking for your first time but we promise that we are here to make you as comfortable as possible! Using drapes or modesty towels prolong the service and make it more difficult for us to complete your wax efficiently so you will be uncovered for the duration. We are professionals and after a few minutes, you’ll completely forget you were ever nervous. Promise!

  • What should I do before my first appointment?

We recommend you arrive to your first appointment freshly showered and relaxed! A warm shower helps open up your follicles for a more comfortable experience. You are also welcome to take an OTC painkiller of your choice an hour before your service to help a little bit, but we don’t think you really need it!

Exfoliating with a warm, wet wash cloth and a gentle cleanser before your appointment will help remove dead skin cells to promote a smoother wax.

  • How often should I get waxed?

The ideal and most popular waxing schedule is 4 weeks between services, but a “regular” waxer may visit in between 3-6 week intervals to see the best results.

  • What positions do I have to lay in?

The vulva or “front” is waxed in the “butterfly” position, with the bottom of your feet pressed together and knees relaxed and opened down onto the table. This can be modified for pregnancy or any other condition that may not allow you to stay in this position for 10-15 minutes.

For the butt strip or “back” we ask you to lay flat onto your belly and that you steady your cheeks by holding them with your hands so that they don’t touch during the service. This is the quickest and least painful part— a few strips that feel only like a bandaid! Again, this position can be modified into side-lying or happy baby for pregnancy or any other condition.

You will never be asked to be on your hands or forearms and knees for any part of the service, we are asked this question OFTEN.

  • I got my first wax, but there's still hair left behind. Why?

Your hair grows in three different stages: Anagen, catagen and telogen, respectively.

Anagen is the “growth” phase: it’s strongly rooted in the follicle and being fed by the papilla, the hair’s food source.

Catagen is the “transition” phase: the hair detaches from the follicle. This lasts 1-2 weeks.

Telogen is the “resting” phase: the hair dies and sheds to be replaced by a new anagen hair.

When we wax, our goal is to remove the hair at the anagen stage. When the hair is removed from the root at this stage, it damages the papilla. When hair is ripped from its food source, the follicle will shrink, causing the regrowth to be less. It takes a few wax appointments for every hair to be removed together and land back at the anagen phase at the same time. The more anagen hairs you have at the time of your wax, the cleaner your wax will be!

This is why many first time waxers, vacation waxers and waxers who aren’t consistent see short hairs left behind or quicker regrowth.

  • I just want to get waxed for vacation... can I?

Of course you can! We can’t promise that you won’t become obsessed and waxing won’t become an important part of your monthly routine though!

Our disclaimer to all “vacation waxers” is that the best Brazilian results come from consistency, and it typically takes a couple of waxes until all the hair can be removed at once. Having realistic expectations is key.
